Illinois Recording Laws - Recording Law

Right to the heart of the matter (refer to bullet point #3):

Some Common Situations Where You Are Not Legally Able to Record
  • Using an eavesdropping device to secretly record a conversation you are not a part of
  • An area where most patrons cannot overhear each other and have a reasonable expectation of privacy such as in an intimate restaurant
  • A place that has signs or rules specifically forbidding recordings

So does that mean that Long island audit is kind of screwed for his trial. He recorded in city hall with signs posted.

It would seem so, BUT IMO, he will get away with it. It seems that in this decade, you can do whatever the *advertiser censored* you want without repercussion, laws and policies meaningless.

Watch some Direct D, Christopher Ruff (or Roff) videos. A convicted felon who served 7 years for ARMED ROBBERY and KIDNAPPING, he literally TAKES OVER police stops and the police allow it!

Just to say the words, "1st Amendment right" trumps all. The police shrink at the mere mention of those words like Dracula from silver crucifixes. It's like Voodoo. Except with those two words, "1st Amendment" instead of a VooDoo doll and hat pins.

There needs to be a concerted effort to educate (sorry) Law Enforcement and employees of typical Frauditor targets about the whole Frauditor pestilence. USPS employees, for instance need to recognize frauditors as soon as they enter the facility. A phone on a tripod might be the first hint, and of course, they'll soon enough start drooling out the script. When an irritant is IDed as a Frauditor, call the cops immediately, engage as little as possible, trespass as soon as the cops show up Some training about Poster 7 is needed in this particular situation, but if handled correctly it shouldn't get even that far.

Remember: Poster 7 gives the final authority to "Security Force personnel or other authorized individuals".

And, regardless of whatever Poster 7 says, ANY person can be trepassed FOR ANY REASON, FROM PRIVATE OR PUBLIC FACILITIES. Not in every case....obviously, you can't trespass someone for race or creed considerations. But bad behavior, offensive text on clothing....toss 'em. Immediately. No discussion, no "reasoning".

And that's exactly where Marc Stout's unique understanding of frauditing, from BOTH ends of the camera lens, would enter the picture.

Marc would be the best man for the job to CLARIFY what a frauditor can and can't do by writing a book on this, a go-to reference for police, city halls and officials, etc., to review when these applicable situations arise!

I find it amazing that about 1 out of 10 postmasters is aware of the extent of their authority they have to call a quick halt to filming in post offices.

Except that the mere words, "1st amendment protected activity" appears to work like Jedi mind tricks when spoken by a frauditor, causing the blood to drain from the faces of officials and their minds to go blank.
